Join us at Like a Fishhook Men's Retreat
About the name, Like-a-Fishhook. The stories of Like-a-Fishhook village vary but what is common in all of them is in 1837 the Native American tribes in this region were hit with a disastrous smallpox epidemic. In 1845, a small group of the Three Affiliated Tribes in the Dakota Territory left their homes to settle near here to escape what was killing their people. This place helped them recover and for almost 40 years they stayed and established a better life. The spirit of this place carries many parallels for us… a place where we can find healing and recovery from that which ails us.
This event was founded in 2019 for Men in recovery to have a similar experience and to grow our relationship with our Creator. We hope you’re able to be present physically, mentally, and spiritually for the entire weekend. Please take days as an opportunity to unplug from the constant distraction of our cell phones and other technology and just enjoy the next forty-two hours immersed in God’s Creation surrounded by your brothers in recovery. The idea being in such an atmosphere we can be honest, open, and willing without the usual interruptions. The noisiness of our lives will be there waiting when we leave.
As it is written on page 124 in our book, Alcoholics Anonymous,
“Henry Ford once made a wise remark to the effect that experience is the thing of supreme value in life. That is true only if one is willing to turn the past to good account. We grow by our willingness to face and rectify errors and convert them into assets. The alcoholics past thus becomes the principal asset of the family and frequently it is almost the only one!
